The mission of Oasis is to help women and children heal, grow and overcome difficult life challenges by providing affordable mental health counseling and innovative education programs in a respectful and nurturing environment.

Groups & Education

Oasis supports women who are motivated to learn, grow and make positive changes in their lives. Our groups offer women a chance to work together around common issues or interests with licensed practitioners as well as skilled and talented mentors and teachers.

Ongoing Groups and Classes:
 
Latinas-- For information about groups for Latinas, please call Consuelo Viteri at 933-0338. Información en Español.

Healing from Rape--A six-week group designed to assist women who have been raped, in their journey from victim to survivor.  This group combines education, therapeutic intervention and hands-on projects to help facilitate healing.  Topics of discussion include prevalence, societal myths, safety and self-care, healing from rape and moving forward. Call Anna Orcutt at 933-0338 Ext. 108.


Wise Women
– A free group for women ages 55 and older. Women can share wisdom, insight and support on positive aging, health and wellness, retirement, spirituality, relationships and other issues of interest to this age group. This outreach group is conducted at three facilities in the Birmingham area.  Call Julianne Venable at 933-0338 Ext. 106.  This program is currently being funded by grants from Canterbury United Methodist Church, the Susan Mott Webb Charitable Trust, and the Jefferson County Department of Health.

Anger Management Group–- Sessions focus on the following: 1) how thinking, feeling and behavior contribute to anger, 2) learning to control anger and aggressive outbursts, 3) learning assertive communication and problem solving skills, and 4) developing healthy strategies to deal with anger.
